It’s the first week of December and we couldn’t be more excited about the holidays ~ and all of the celebrating that comes with it!
If you are like us you find the holidays go by too fast, so many things to do and so little time! Holiday entertaining is a big part of that so we’ve put together a few tips on how to throw together a gathering that will save you time and ensure that it is Merry for everyone (including you)!
Tip #1: Keep it Simple and Small!
Invite a few friends and their kiddos for an afternoon of Holiday merriment. Limit the gathering to three hours or so, this ensures kids don’t get too tired and that everyone can be home by dinner time. By combining both parents and kids everyone gets to spend time together and no one needs to find babysitter (that’s a win-win in our book!)
Tip #2: Keep it Light!
An afternoon gathering is great because you don’t have to serve a meal…make it a Cookies and Milk (and Cookie and Cocktails) party and have everyone bring their favorite cookie (and holiday beverage). To keep the pressure off, make sure everyone knows that store-bought is just fine. There are great holiday cookies available in stores at this time of the year. Add a simple cheese and crackers display for the adults and you are all set!
Side note: If you do wish to make your own cookies, more power to you! Here are two of our favorite cookie recipes for a quick Sugar Cookie (perfect for decorating) and a fancy cookie by the Kitchen Queen, Ina.
Side note to the side note: We found some fantastic cookie icing packets at our local supermarket in the baking aisle. They are easy to use, easy clean up and they taste good! These are perfect for cookie decorating…and did we mention the easy cleanup?
Tip #3: Send ‘em home! As the gathering comes to an end have some treat boxes or to-go bags on hand so that you can wrap up cookies for guests to take home. This speeds up clean up time and ensures you don’t have tons of cookies laying around the kitchen (calling you to eat them…or does that only happen to us?)
May your Holidays be Merry + Bright!
